San Juan Summer celebration throughout Spain

Filed under: Events in Spain — SpainDreams @ 10:21 pm

All over Spain, tonight, the shortest night of the whole year, being the start of the Summer season, will be celebrated with bonfires and fireworks, music, dancing and many people eating sardines as a tradition.

On San Juan bonfires are built anywhere along the beaches, people spending all night on the beach, eating, drinking and dancing, and on many ample town squares throughout the towns, while children and adults enjoy the fireworks.

The tradition says, if one jumps three times over a bonfire on San Juan’s night, he or she will be purified.

In Barcelona, as well as in many other places, public transport of metro, tram and bus will run all night long, as most people are changing from one place to another for music, booze and fun.

Together with New Year, it is probably the most celebrated day or night of the whole year.
