The perfect base for you to explore the flavours of Andalusia
is the lively city and architectonic jewel of Seville. According
to legend, Seville was founded by Hercules and its origins
are linked with the Tartessian civilisation. It was called
Hispalis under the Romans and Isbiliya with the Moors.
In Sevilla we will visit the minaret of La Giralda, the cathedral
(one of the largest in Christendom) and the Mudejar Alcazar
Palace with marvellous gardens. We will also enjoy a walking
tapas tour through the Santa Cruz old quarter with
cramped streets, flowered balconies, richly decorated facades,
hidden patios.
On one day we will make an excursion to the land where the
oldest Spanish wine “Sherry”
can only be made. In the year 1100 AD, a small Phoenician
galley crossed the Mediterranean in search of new civilizations.
After passing the limits of the known world, they became shipwrecked
not far from Jerez. The Phoenician merchants were captivated
by the prosperity of this wonderful land and decided to establish
a colony and planted vines, vines from which the famous classic
Sherry wines are produced today. Ever since Sir Francis Drake
ransacked the port of Cadiz in 1587 and made off with 3,000
barrels of Jerez wine, many European countries have been addicted
to it..
Our gourmet tour will lead us go to Sanlucar,
a lovely fishing village famed for being the port which Columbus
set sail from and famous for its succulent pricey prawns and
Manzanilla, queen of dry Sherries with a unique sea-breeze
tang.
We will also head to Cordoba, founded by
the Romans and later capital of the Moorish kingdom, a very
lively town in the best Andalusia tradition, a town of Flamenco
and bullfighting, an exceptional Muslim and Roman legacy and
certainly one of the most attractive destinations for delighting
with Andalusian cuisine. We will travel through its countryside,
land of olive groves, vineyards, and small orchards visiting
an old cellar and a traditional olive mill.
You will enjoy fantastic hands-on cooking classes
in Seville with one of Andalusia’s most acclaimed chefs,
trained in Paris and who applies a contemporary French flair
to indigenous Andalusian ingredients. The result is a distinctively
delicate and delectable take on traditional regional cuisine.
And you will also savour fabulous gourmet meals during the
tour while staying in a small, charming hotel situated in
the historic centre of Seville, that will permit you to explore
and feel the cheerful atmosphere of this lovely city that
will daze your senses. |
