The horse riding program Radial
Routes is designed for people with an intermediate
level of riding who whish to initiate themselves to the joys of
day-long excursions. Throughout the programme the numbers of hours
in the saddle are steadily increased each day as riders develop
the necessary resistance and improve their outdoor skills through
the practice of Le TREC technicalities. All of this takes place
in the beautiful surroundings of the Sierra Nevada. Horse riding
program for holidays or incentive travel in Granada, Andalucia,
Spain:
Day 1:
Morning: Riding lesson in the arena and allocation of horses
Afternoon: Ride on the high plains of Guadix with spectacular views
of the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
Day 2: 1/2 day excursion
Morning: Excursion to the Alhama river valley. Climbing down the
“end of the world”, we will arrive at the very birth
of the Alhama river. We will then ascend through the pine forests
of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park. This ride will enable riders
to appreciate the contrasting differences of the varying scenery
in the area: From bad-lands more typical of Colorado canyons to
streams and luscious valleys and finally the Mediterranean pine
forests and the highest plain of the Iberian peninsula, rising at
1400 meters above sea level, from where the highest peaks of the
Sierra Nevada once again become visible.
Day 3: 1/2 day excursion
Morning: The Alcornocales way. Riding through the small village
of “Marchal”, we will start to climb the first levels
of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park in which are located the largest
concentration on oak woods in the Iberian Peninsula. We will pass
through many traditional small villages that specialise in the production
of “Vino Mosto”, a traditional wine that is produced
at high altitude. Following our ascent, we will emerge at the very
heart of the natural park and will be able to see the “dark
side” of the Sierra Nevada where the traditional Iberian bulls
are bred in the freedom of mountain ranges.
Day 4: Full day excursion
This day will be divided into two parts. During the first part,
we will climb up through winding paths and arrive at the village
of Cogollos, one of the portals of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park.
The path leads us on to the spectacular pine forests and the Cogollos
lake which collects its water from the melting ices of the Sierra
Nevada. We will have our lunchtime picnic next to the lake, and
those who wish to do so may also have
a swim. After lunch, we will continue ascending
along the old mining routes of the Santa Constanza mines. This route
offers spectacular views of the Zenette valley and of the Picion
(2400 meters). We will then descend and gallop across the wide plains
and will finally arrive back at the riding centre in the evening.
Day 5: 2 1/2 hour ride
Morning: On this final day of the stay, we will head East into
the Natural Park. In this direction, the scenery is different, spectacular,
and moonlike, with red earth and semi-deserts which hide an abundant
wealth of life: aromatic plants, mountain goats and once again,
amazing views of the surrounding areas.
